Don’t I Need A Solicitor?
IN SHORT: NO.
First of all, to be legally valid a Lasting Power of Attorney (‘LPA’) does not have to
have been drafted by a Solicitor. Who actually completed the document is completely irrelevant.
Furthermore, to be
legally binding an LPA does not have to be witnessed by a Solicitor either -
it can be witnessed by any competent people who are not appointed as Attorneys in the LPA.
tenminutewill.co.uk
is therefore suitable for the vast majority of people to use in making their LPA,
without the need of a Solicitor at any stage of the process. Provided that
you follow all of our instructions carefully, your LPA document - as soon as it
has been properly signed, witnessed and certified - will be just as legal as if it had been written by
a Solicitor.
Will it REALLY be legal?
YES IT WILL. Tens of thousands of people have already made their LPAs with us, and registered them with the OPG, and not
one of them has had their document refused registration on the grounds of its content.
All we have done is automate the process followed by Solicitors
in completing the LPA form, substantially reducing the cost and time involved. What's
more, we've made it substantially more convenient.
Furthermore, every legal document purchased from our site is checked
by a Professionally-qualified Checker - giving you complete peace of mind.
Once you've completed our simple to follow Instructions for the signing/witnessing/certification process,
your LPA document will be 100% fully legal.
Why do Solicitors charge so much more than the £49.99+VAT that you charge?
We get asked this question all the time by people who have been quoted £500 and upwards
by a Solicitor for making a Lasting Power of Attorney.
A Solicitor is charging you for the following:-
- Completing the LPA form (we do this for you)
- Acting as witness to the signing of the LPA (you can get anybody over 18 to do this, at no charge)
- Acting as Certificate Provider for the LPA (you can get anybody over 18 who has known you for 2 years or more to do this, at no charge, and it only takes them a few minutes to do)
- Registering the LPA for you with the OPG (you don't need to this until the document is needed, and even then it costs only £92)
We believe that our price is fair, and will leave you to decide whether the extra service provided by a Solicitor is value for money.
