When should we consider Mirror Wills ?

A pair of Mirror Wills is appropriate when you and your partner/spouse wish to write similar Wills.

You can make a pair of Mirror Wills at TenMinuteWill and you will receive two Wills (one for you, one for your spouse/partner) with the following features:

  1. The first Will will be exactly the same as a normal Single Will.
  2. The second Will also will be exactly the same as a normal Single Will, and will be a ‘mirrored copy’ of the first Will with your name and your partner/spouse’s name ‘interchanged’, i.e.:
    1. Your name will be substituted with the name of your partner/spouse at the top of the 1st page
    2. Every occurrence of your partner/spouse's name in the rest of the Will will be substituted with your name
  3. Relationships will 'calculated' in the second Will e.g. If you leave a sum of money to your brother-in-law in the first Will, our system will suggest that in the second Will this legacy be left to your partner/spouse's brother. Before either Will is generated, you will be able to correct our suggestion e.g. your brother-in-law may also be your spouse's brother-in-law.

What are the benefits of making Mirror Wills ?

The benefit of making Mirror Wills is one of ease (you only have to type everything in once, instead of twice) and cost (you would pay 2 x £49.99+VAT for two Single Wills, but only £74.99+VAT for a pair of Mirror Wills).

You can make a pair of Mirror Wills if all of the following are true:

  • You want to leave your Residuary Estate to each other as the primary beneficiary.
  • You have identical ‘secondary’ beneficiaries for your Residuary Estate.
  • You are partners or husband & wife.
  • You both have the same Last Wishes or have specified them in separate letters.

If you’re not sure whether or not to make Mirror Wills then we suggest you try and see what happens, because it’s FREE to draft a Will and view the Will Summary at TenMinuteWill.

If you then find that you’re still not sure whether Mirror Wills or suitable for you, or if you have another query regarding making Mirror Wills, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

This is a great service. Very easy to follow the guidance. Much easier than speaking to a Solicitor.
