Write your Will Online
in 3 Easy Steps

Why not just buy the cheapest Will or LPA?

If you have found somewhere else where you can purchase a Will cheaper than ours - possibly for what seems like a ludicrously low price - then please read this section before you do anything.

Your Will covers everything that you have worked for during your life. It makes no sense whatsoever to risk it all by cutting corners. We believe you should think very carefully about just why another offering is so cheap, because on the Internet - just like everywhere else - you get what you pay for.

Our price - £49.99+VAT for a Single Will - is certainly an affordable amount to pay for one of the most important documents you will ever need, and will give you a comprehensive Will package. To be frank, something you pay £10 for won’t. Ask yourself if it is worth the risk for the sake of a few pounds.

Ask all of the following questions of any cheaper alternative you are considering. Every one of them can be vitally important to your Will :-

  • Will your Will be checked by a professional Willwriter, so that if you have made a mistake you will be informed so that you can rectify it? If a mistake in your Will isn’t picked up, you won’t be around to do anything about it when it’s eventually discovered and as a result your estate may not go to whom you want it to. In the worst case, your entire Will may be declared invalid.
  • Do you get to try out the Willwriting software before you make your purchase, to ensure that it will give you what you want, or do you just have to buy it ‘blind’?
  • Do you get to see a sample of what your Will might look like? Does it look legal, or does it look barely better than something you could have written yourself? Beware of suppliers who aren’t even prepared to show you a sample Will - there’s a good reason why they won’t.
  • Are you offered a money-back guarantee?
  • Is supporting documentation included? Important documentation that we include with our Wills includes how to sign and witness your Will to make it legal, and a guide on how to apply for Probate - basically, this means that the people who you have made responsible for carrying out the wishes of your Will have everything they need to go through the process of legally distributing your estate. Otherwise, they’ll probably need a Solicitor or a Bank to help them. Solicitors will charge 2-5% of your entire estate - thousands of pounds - and Banks will charge even more.
  • What about Inheritance Tax? If you leave a gift to somebody in your Will, they may have to pay Inheritance Tax on it unless you specify otherwise - hardly a legacy they’ll appreciate. Specifying that a gift is free of Inheritance Tax on the recipient (it is then paid out of your estate) requires specific wording and a specific back-up clause. To achieve this in one of our Wills, you simply have to tick a box. Does the cheaper offering give you this? Do they even tell you about Inheritance Tax? If you're buying their Willwriting software 'blind', assume the answers to all of these questions are 'no'. Under recent legislation the people you have made responsible for carrying out the wishes of your Will may be liable to prosecution if the Inheritance Tax due on gifts in your Will isn’t properly declared and paid.
  • Is Willwriting the site’s core business, or just a sideline? TenMinuteWill only write Wills and therefore bring all of their expertise to bear on making sure that you receive a professional and dedicated service. Look for tell-tale signs that a site is just an interesting sideline - which will be dropped if it isn't profitable - such as different www addresses on pages about the Company.
  • Do you get a proper Will, or just the bare essentials? There are a number of eventualities which can occur after you have died, when the people you have made responsible for your Will come to execute it. Over the years, the willwriting profession have developed clauses - which now have considerable legal precedent - to cover all of these eventualities. Our Wills contain more than a dozen such clauses, depending on what you have included in your Will and the type of Will you have chosen. Their inclusion does not complicate your Will - on the contrary, it protects your Executors and beneficiaries. Does the offering you are considering include such clauses, or do they just make excuses for not doing so? Again, if they don't even mention it then you can assume that the answer is 'no'.

Remember - you get what you pay for. Having an incomplete Will or a Will with mistakes in it can be as bad as having no Will at all.

So are you using the Internet to make your Will at the lowest possible cost, or do you want to get the best of everything:- the speed and convenience of writing your Will online, and a professional and comprehensive Will at a price you can easily afford?

If it’s the latter, then please click here to get started right now.

Finally, you'll notice that we haven't mentioned anything about Lasting Power of Attorney. That’s because, at the time of writing, nobody else even does this product online - let alone cheaper than us. If you know differently, please let us know.

This is a great service. Very easy to follow the guidance. Much easier than speaking to a Solicitor.
